James Hometown is a multi-disciplinary artist and co-founder of Hometown Sound System, pushing sound system music and culture in Glasgow and beyond for over 16 years. Drawing inspiration from Jamaican sound system traditions, UK club culture, and rave history, James has built a reputation for genre-spanning sets that fuse reggae, dancehall, dub, and underground club sounds into a powerful, community-driven experience.
Alongside his work as a DJ, James is a visual artist whose practice explores social and political themes connected to music and club culture, working-class life in Glasgow, and the cultural void surrounding Scottish independence and its crisis of identity. With a background in DIY design and years of creating his own event artwork, his recent work has expanded into fine art, blending raw mark-making with bold graphic energy.
Whether through sound or visual image, James’ work channels the same spirit: amplifying voices from the margins, celebrating collective energy, and building spaces where music, art, and people come together.
